Visuals of the Congress leader's clandestine arrival at Mount St Thomas surfaced only on Thursday. The timing was notable as 53 bishops from across India and abroad were assembled there for the first session of the Church's 34th Synod. Choosing to avoid official vehicles, Satheesan conducted his visit with deliberate discretion, keeping it away from the public eye.
An "Informal" Meeting with Private Agendas
Church sources were quick to label the encounter as informal and private. They clarified that the opposition leader's arrival was not officially connected to the synodal proceedings, which had concluded for the day by the time of his visit. Instead, the purpose was stated to be private meetings with a few select bishops.
While sources denied a meeting with the Major Archbishop, Mar Raphael Thattil, they confirmed that Satheesan held discussions with at least three bishops. Neither the Church authorities nor Satheesan issued any formal statement regarding the content or nature of these talks.
