Salem Bus Crash Leaves Eight Dead, Including Young Children
A tragic road accident near Ariyanoor village in Salem district on Friday afternoon has resulted in the deaths of eight individuals, including two young children. The collision involved a Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) bus and multiple other vehicles, leaving ten people injured and hospitalized.
Details of the Fatal Collision
Preliminary investigations indicate that the TNSTC bus, which was traveling from Coimbatore to Salem, veered off its lane after the driver reportedly lost control. The vehicle crossed the center median and crashed head-on into oncoming traffic. The bus collided with a goods auto carrying more than ten people who were returning from a function, leading to the catastrophic outcome.

- Selvaraj, 52 years old
- Manikandan, 21 years old
- Irusaayi, 38 years old
- Nithiska, 5 years old
- Jeevika, 11 months old
- Amutha
- Murugan
- Sathya, wife of Manikandan
Reports suggest that five of the victims were members of the same family. Additionally, a mother and her son, who were traveling on a two-wheeler, were among those killed instantly at the scene.

The injured individuals were promptly rushed to Salem Government Hospital for emergency medical treatment. Police have registered a case and launched a thorough investigation into the incident. In a statement posted on X, AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami expressed deep sadness over the accident. He alleged that frequent accidents involving government buses point to poor maintenance under the current administration. Palaniswami extended his condolences to the bereaved families and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.
