Police investigation, led by Sadar police station officer-in-charge Awadhesh Kumar Singh, confirmed that Sharma was returning from the celebrations by hanging onto a pickup vehicle. He lost balance while attempting to deboard from the speeding vehicle, leading to grievous injuries. "CCTV footage clearly shows that he lost balance and fell while trying to get down from a speeding pickup vehicle," stated Singh, emphasizing the accidental nature of the incident.
