Telangana CM Revanth Reddy Urges Voters to Support Congress in Municipal Polls
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy of Telangana has made a fervent appeal to voters, urging them to support Congress candidates in the forthcoming municipal elections. Speaking at an election meeting in Chelpur village near Bhupalpally municipality, Reddy emphasized the critical importance of electing Congress representatives for the continuation and acceleration of development initiatives across the state.
Promises of Housing and Development Funds
In his address, Reddy announced that the Congress government would sanction lakhs of additional Indiramma houses starting from April. He contrasted this commitment with what he described as the failures of the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) administration. According to Reddy, the BRS government did not fulfill its promise of providing 2-BHK housing units to economically disadvantaged families.
"While the poor were left waiting for basic housing, BRS leaders including K Chandrasekhar Rao, Harish Rao, KT Rama Rao, and K Kavitha were busy purchasing luxurious farmhouses," Reddy alleged during his speech.
The Chief Minister highlighted the current government's financial commitment to urban development, revealing that Rs 17,442 crore has been sanctioned for urban local bodies throughout Telangana. Of this substantial allocation, Rs 6,116 crore has been specifically designated for the combined Warangal district, demonstrating targeted investment in regional infrastructure.
Allegations of Political Conspiracy
Revanth Reddy made serious allegations against opposition leaders, claiming that BRS top leaders K Chandrasekhar Rao, KT Rama Rao, and T Harish Rao are conspiring to help the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) win the February 11 municipal elections. According to Reddy, this alleged collaboration is motivated by a desire to avoid questioning and potential arrest by investigative agencies.
"The BRS leadership fears investigation in the Kaleshwaram fraud and Formula E-race cases," Reddy stated, "and they believe that having BJP councillors and corporators in power will protect them from accountability."
The Chief Minister specifically mentioned that K Chandrasekhar Rao and Harish Rao are allegedly involved in the Kaleshwaram case, while KT Rama Rao is implicated in the Formula E-race case. Reddy expressed frustration that despite six months having passed since the Kaleshwaram case was transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), no questioning of the accused leaders has occurred.
Accusations of Political Protection
Revanth Reddy directed sharp criticism at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister G Kishan Reddy, accusing them of providing political protection to the BRS leadership. He referenced Prime Minister Modi's previous characterization of the Kaleshwaram project as "an ATM for the KCR family" while questioning why no arrests have been made despite this acknowledgment.
"If the CBI and Enforcement Directorate can be utilized by PM Modi and Kishan Reddy to harass Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi," Reddy argued, "then these same agencies should certainly be able to question or arrest KCR, Harish, and KTR in their respective cases."
In a particularly pointed remark, Reddy suggested that Union Minister G Kishan Reddy has become so aligned with the BRS leadership that he should be called "Kalvakuntla Kishan Rao" – effectively an adopted son of K Chandrasekhar Rao.
Development and Religious Undertones
Earlier in the day, before his political address, Chief Minister Reddy visited the Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple where renovation works are underway with an investment of Rs 12.15 crore. He offered prayers at the temple, blending religious observance with his political messaging about development and governance.
Reddy concluded his appeal with a clear message to voters: "Electing Congress candidates is essential for development works to proceed effectively. BRS or BJP councillors and corporators will not approach Congress MLAs or me for collaborative development initiatives."
The municipal elections in Telangana, scheduled for February 11, have become a significant political battleground with implications for both local governance and broader state politics. The Congress party, under Reddy's leadership, is positioning itself as the champion of development and accountability against what it characterizes as corrupt opposition alliances.
