CM Revanth Reddy Unveils Sweeping Infrastructure and Irrigation Vision for Telangana Districts
In a major push for the upcoming municipal elections, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has announced a comprehensive plan for large-scale infrastructure and irrigation projects across the combined districts of Rangareddy, Vikarabad, Mahbubnagar, and surrounding areas. Speaking at an election rally in Narayanpur village, Vikarabad district, the CM outlined ambitious initiatives aimed at transforming the region's development landscape.
Water Resource Promises and Political Accusations
Revanth Reddy committed to bringing Godavari and Krishna river waters to the districts for both drinking and irrigation purposes. He specifically highlighted the long-pending Pranahita-Chevella project, whose foundation stone was laid by former Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy in November 2008. The CM accused his predecessor, K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR), of deliberately failing to execute this critical water supply initiative for Mahbubnagar and Rangareddy districts.
"Despite projecting himself as a leader of the Telangana movement, KCR neglected the development of Rangareddy and never committed to providing Godavari water to the region," Revanth stated. He further alleged that KCR had assured leaders from Seemandhra about developing Rayalaseema as 'Ratanalaseema' during a visit to YSR Congress leader Roja's residence, while ignoring local needs.
Allegations of Corruption and Project Failures
The Chief Minister launched a sharp attack on the Kaleshwaram project, claiming that the Rs 1 lakh crore initiative collapsed within just three years. He alleged that funds allocated for the project were misused by KCR and his family members, including KT Rama Rao and T Harish Rao, to construct personal farmhouses. Revanth also questioned why permissions for completing the Chevella project were never secured, referencing former minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy's statement about joining the BRS for Rangareddy's development.
Infrastructure Development and Road Projects
On the infrastructure front, Revanth Reddy promised significant improvements. He criticized the previous BRS government for failing to complete the Appa junction-Manneguda road, which he said led to several fatal accidents. "Our Congress government has resolved legal hurdles and expedited these works," he asserted. The CM also reiterated commitments to developing the Regional Ring Road and radial roads, while announcing that land acquisition for the Lakshmi Devi Palli reservoir would be completed soon to facilitate Krishna water supply to the region.
Agricultural and Tourism Transformation
The Chief Minister outlined plans to make Tandur, Parigi, and Vikarabad fertile through irrigation projects. He added that Krishna waters would be diverted to Makthal, Narayanpet, and Kodangal, benefiting approximately 1.5 lakh acres of agricultural land. In a notable announcement, Revanth pledged to transform Vikarabad into a world-class tourist destination, alongside developing underground drainage systems and completing key road works across the districts.
Political Counterattacks and Election Confidence
Responding to allegations from KTR and Harish Rao that he was erasing KCR's contributions, Revanth Reddy stated, "No one can erase the history of scams and irregularities of 'papala bhairavudu' (KCR)." He cited alleged fake passport and counterfeit currency cases as enduring parts of Telangana's historical record.
The CM also attacked the BJP, accusing the party of seeking votes in the municipal elections in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's name while allegedly having a secret poll pact with the BRS. "If both parties had truly developed the state, why are they going door-to-door campaigning?" he questioned.
Welfare Measures and Future Political Ambitions
Listing his government's welfare initiatives, Revanth highlighted:
- Distribution of fine rice
- Issuance of ration cards
- Farm loan waivers
- Free bus travel for women
- 200 units of free power
- Filling of 70,000 government jobs
He expressed confidence that the Congress would not only perform well in the municipal elections but also win the 2029 assembly elections, declaring that "the Indiramma rule would continue."
