Telangana Chief Minister Raises Alarm Over Delimitation Exercise
In Hyderabad, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy voiced serious concerns on Monday regarding the proposed delimitation exercise, cautioning that a population-based increase in parliamentary seats could disproportionately disadvantage southern states. During an informal interaction with journalists at the legislative council premises, Reddy emphasized that such a move might disturb the existing political equilibrium and lead to dominance by certain regions, potentially undermining federal balance.
Warning Against Regional Dominance and BJP's Strategy
Revanth Reddy starkly warned, "An unchecked dominance in governance may pave the way for dictatorship. The BJP is attempting to establish a brutal majority through such measures." He advocated for maintaining the current gap in seat numbers between North and South India post-delimitation to preserve fairness. To address this issue, Reddy revealed plans to travel to Kerala for campaigning and hinted at organizing a meeting of southern political leaders in Telangana to collectively discuss and strategize against the delimitation proposal.
Comments on KCR and Governance Distinctions
Responding to queries about former Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao's absence from the assembly, Reddy suggested that beyond health issues, there were suspicions Rao was under 'house arrest' by his son KT Rama Rao and nephew T Harish Rao, indirectly criticizing the family dynamics. On governance, Reddy drew a clear line between his administration and the previous one, asserting superior delivery on electoral promises and alleging a disconnect between KCR's statements and actual implementations during his tenure.
Criticism of BJP's Remarks on President's Rule
Revanth Reddy also challenged BJP Rajya Sabha MP K Laxman over suggestions of possible President's rule in Telangana after 2028. He questioned the consistency of such threats, asking, "How can Laxman make such statements? Will the BJP-led Centre impose President's rule in BJP-ruled states, or is there a separate rule for Telangana?" This critique highlighted concerns over political bias and central overreach.
Announcement of Crackdown on Food Adulteration
Shifting focus to public health, the Chief Minister announced a robust crackdown on food adulteration, describing it as a serious issue. Reddy stated that the state government plans to introduce a comprehensive regulatory and monitoring mechanism with enforcement powers, inspired by initiatives like EAGLE and HYDRAA. "People are increasingly worried about large-scale adulteration leading to dangerous diseases, and there is a growing demand for quality food," he noted, adding that the government will study laws across states to implement an effective system and promote awareness on crop diversification.
Acknowledgment of KCR's Role in Political Rise
In a reflective moment, Revanth Reddy credited his predecessor K Chandrasekhar Rao for shaping his political ascent, alongside public support. After sharing a meal to mark one year of the 'sanna biyyam' scheme, he said, "I gained recognition due to KCR, and without him, I would not be in this position." Drawing from mythology, he likened his journey to narratives from the Ramayana and Mahabharata, explaining that recognition often emerges in contrast to perceived wrongs, with Telangana voters comparing him favorably against KCR.
