Rajasthan Government's Comprehensive Summer Water Supply Plan
The Rajasthan government has announced a substantial financial allocation exceeding Rs 200 crore to ensure adequate drinking water supply across both urban and rural areas during the upcoming peak summer months. This proactive measure aims to address the critical water needs of the state's population as temperatures rise.
Detailed Allocation for Urban and Rural Areas
According to officials from the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), the allocated funds have been strategically distributed between urban and rural regions. For urban areas, the government has earmarked an estimated Rs 55 crore, while rural areas will receive a significantly larger allocation of Rs 154.83 crore. This differential funding reflects the varying infrastructure requirements and population densities across the state.
Water Transport Initiatives for Vulnerable Localities
In addition to the basic supply allocation, the government has dedicated more than Rs 100 crore specifically for Transport of Water (TOW) initiatives. These programs are primarily designed to serve last-mile localities and vulnerable communities that face persistent challenges in accessing regular water supply. The breakdown for TOW funding includes Rs 23 crore for urban areas and Rs 82.37 crore for rural areas.
The comprehensive water supply program will be implemented across all 41 districts of Rajasthan from April 1 to July 31, covering the entire peak summer period.
Infrastructure and Manpower Deployment
To ensure effective implementation, the government has established control rooms at both the state level and in every district. These control rooms will monitor water supply operations, maintain uninterrupted access to clean drinking water, and facilitate quick resolution of complaints and supply-related issues.
The manpower and vehicle deployment plan has been structured in phases:
- March 1-31: 500 laborers per month and 100 hired vehicles per month
- April 1 onward: 2,000 laborers per month and 400 hired vehicles per month
- May 1-July 31: 2,500 laborers per month and 450 hired vehicles per month
District-Level Contingency Funding
The government has also sanctioned district-level contingency funding of Rs 1 crore for each of the 41 districts. District collectors will be responsible for the utilization of these funds, with additional chief engineers executing necessary drinking water arrangement works based on collector instructions.
Jal Jeevan Mission Support
Under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), the department has sanctioned Rs 25 lakh for each district specifically for the operation and maintenance of completed water supply schemes. This additional funding ensures that existing infrastructure remains functional and efficient throughout the summer months.
This multi-faceted approach demonstrates the Rajasthan government's commitment to preventing water scarcity and ensuring equitable access to drinking water across all regions during the challenging summer season.
