Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann Takes Firm Stand on Law and Order
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has declared that he will not spare anyone who violates the law, regardless of their position or influence. This strong statement comes in the wake of a controversy surrounding the death of an officer from the Punjab Warehousing Corporation in Amritsar.
Arrest of Former Minister Laljit Bhullar
Former minister Laljit Singh Bhullar was taken into custody from Mandi Gobindgarh, accused of abetting the suicide of the warehousing official. The incident occurred on Saturday, prompting immediate action from the state government. CM Mann swiftly sought Bhullar's resignation from the Cabinet, emphasizing a commitment to justice.
After Bhullar's arrest, Mann took to his X handle to express his stance, stating that for him, the entire Punjab is one family. He wrote, "If anyone in Punjab violates the law, strict action will be taken against them, no matter what position they hold or whether they are my relative or someone influential. Protecting anyone is not our party's agenda. There is a strict prohibition on cash and seeking favours."
Government's Response and Political Context
The arrest happened within hours of Union Home Minister Amit Shah offering to order a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the matter. AAP media incharge Baltej Pannu highlighted the government's proactive approach, noting that they not only removed the minister to ensure a fair investigation but also registered a First Information Report (FIR) against him.
This incident underscores the Punjab government's focus on maintaining law and order, with CM Mann reiterating that no one is above the law. The case has drawn significant attention, reflecting broader issues of accountability and governance in the state.
