Kishori Pednekar Clinches Victory in Mumbai's Ward 199 for Shiv Sena (UBT)

In a closely watched and prestigious contest for Shiv Sena (UBT), former mayor Kishori Pednekar emerged victorious from Ward 199 in Mumbai. This ward covers parts of Curry Road, Chinchpokli, Lower Parel, and Dhobi Ghat, including the historic mill area. The election drew significant attention from political observers across the city.

A Narrower Margin This Time

Political analysts noted that Pednekar faced a tough challenge from the Shiv Sena candidate. She won by a margin of 1,689 votes in this election. This is a notable decrease from her previous victory in 2017, where she secured over 5,000 votes. The reduced margin highlights the competitive nature of the race.

Crediting Key Supporters for the Win

Pednekar attributed her success to the efforts of several key figures. She specifically mentioned Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Sunil Shinde and MLC Sachin Ahir from the area. Additionally, she acknowledged party leader Aaditya Thackeray, who represents the Worli assembly constituency. Their support played a crucial role in her campaign.

"The 'gaddar' (traitors) were shown their place," Pednekar stated. "While the opposition indulged in politics of money power, we focused on politics of development." Her comments reflect a strong emphasis on grassroots work over financial influence.

Focus on Development Priorities

Looking ahead, Pednekar outlined her immediate priorities for the ward. She plans to focus on the development of Mhada buildings and improving basic amenities. Key issues include storm water drains and water supply for SRA projects, many of which remain half-complete. "Every term has different challenges. I will work accordingly," she explained, indicating a flexible approach to governance.

Local Factors and Voter Sentiment

The election was particularly challenging due to her opponent's strong local connections. The Shiv Sena candidate was the wife of a shakha pramukh from the united Sena in the same ward. This gave her a deep-rooted link with voters. However, Pednekar's victory suggests that local sentiment still favors the legacy of the late Balasaheb Thackeray.

A local resident commented on the dynamics. "She had a tough fight, as the candidate against her had a local connection with voters. However, people still have regard for the late Balasaheb Thackeray, and MNS workers too worked for her." This indicates that combined efforts from Shiv Sena (UBT) and MNS workers contributed to her win.

Pednekar also acknowledged the role of MNS workers in her victory. She emphasized that her success resulted from a collaborative effort between Shiv Sena and MNS supporters. This coalition helped secure votes in a tightly contested ward.
