Gursewak Singh, a 25-year-old from Wanjha Wala village in Ajnala, who drowned in Slovakia, was laid to rest in his native village on Saturday after his mortal remains were repatriated with the help of local MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla. The funeral was attended by hundreds of grieving villagers, relatives, and well-wishers.

Details of the Incident

Gursewak had traveled to Slovakia about eight months ago on a work permit in search of better employment opportunities. He drowned under circumstances that have not been fully disclosed. His family, inconsolable at the loss, had appealed to the Indian government and public representatives for assistance in bringing his body back home.

MP Aujla's Role

Member of Parliament Gurjeet Singh Aujla took up the matter with the ministries and officials concerned, facilitating the return of the mortal remains. Speaking at the funeral, Aujla expressed his condolences, stating that the untimely death of a young man is an irreparable loss not only for the family but also for society. He noted that the entire village was engulfed in grief as the remains arrived.
