NSS General Secretary Rejects External Influence in Failed Community Alliance
In a significant development from Kottayam, NSS general secretary G Sukumaran Nair has firmly dismissed suggestions of external interference in the collapse of the proposed alliance between the Nair and Ezhava communities. This statement comes as a direct response to remarks made by his SNDP Yogam counterpart, Vellappally Natesan, who recently addressed the issue after an SN Trust meeting in Cherthala.
Clarification on Alliance Breakdown and Political Implications
Nair emphasized that the decision to not proceed with the unity effort was his own proposal during a director board meeting, countering any insinuations of outside manipulation. He revealed that he specifically informed Thushar Vellappally—president of the NDA ally BDJS—to abstain from alliance discussions due to potential political ramifications. The timing of this conversation proved particularly noteworthy, as Natesan received the Padma Bhushan award the following day, sparking suspicions about the underlying motives behind the unity initiative.
While acknowledging that Natesan deserved the prestigious award, Nair pointed out that the apparent political interference became a decisive factor in halting the unity talks. He expressed skepticism about external forces driving the unity move and criticized the involvement of individuals with political agendas in the discussions.
Defense of NSS Leadership and Neutral Political Stance
Addressing criticisms directed at the NSS, Nair asserted that such comments typically originate from those unfamiliar with the organization's workings. He affirmed that community members wholeheartedly support the leadership, regardless of external opinions. On the political front, Nair maintained a neutral posture, stating that assembly candidates affiliated with the NSS would bear the consequences of their actions, whether positive or negative.
When questioned about Ganesh Kumar's potential candidacy in Pathanapuram, Nair reiterated this impartial approach, extending it even to opposition leader V D Satheesan. He welcomed anyone, including Satheesan, to meet with him at the NSS headquarters, emphasizing that the organization holds no enmity toward any individual or political entity.
SNDP Yogam's Perspective on the Failed Unity Effort
Earlier in the day, Natesan shared his perspective on the matter, expressing no regret or protest over the unsuccessful unity attempt. He described the Nair community as brotherly and highlighted the shared beliefs and blood between the Nair and Ezhava communities. Natesan made it clear that neither Sukumaran Nair nor the NSS would face rejection from the SNDP leadership, dispelling any notions of backlash against the Nairs for declining the unity proposal.
In a commendatory tone, Natesan portrayed Sukumaran Nair as innocent, selfless, and honourable. He suggested that the prospective unity caused discomfort among certain political leaders and indicated that understanding the reasons for the failure did not require extensive investigation. The SNDP Yogam director board had supported the unity effort, and Nair was informed that Thushar Vellappally was tasked with leading the discussions—a arrangement Nair initially viewed favorably.
Call for Future Unity and Patience
Natesan underscored the urgent need for unity across communities, from Nayadi to Nasrani, stating that if not achieved today, it would inevitably happen tomorrow. He pledged continued efforts toward this goal and advocated for patience, arguing that divisiveness cannot persist indefinitely. Natesan called for thoughtful and timely action against forces attempting to hijack the nation, reinforcing the importance of solidarity in contemporary times.
