JD(U) Leader Nishant Kumar Opts Out of Cabinet, Pledges Party Strengthening
In a significant political development in Patna, JD(U) leader Nishant Kumar announced on Thursday that he would not join the newly formed Bihar cabinet, instead focusing his efforts on strengthening the party organization. The son of former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar made this declaration during a meeting with party legislators, MLCs, and workers at the JD(U) office.
Commitment to Party Over Government Position
Nishant Kumar stated unequivocally that his immediate priority is to work at the grassroots level to bolster the party's presence across Bihar. "I will strengthen the party, inform every village about the works carried out by my father, and will fulfil his unfulfilled dream," he told reporters. This decision comes despite strong speculation that he would be appointed as a Deputy Chief Minister following his recent entry into the JD(U).
According to sources within the JD(U), Nishant declined the cabinet offer because he wants to spend the next six months engaging directly with the people and fortifying the party's organizational structure, rather than assuming a government post immediately. This move occurred even as a faction of senior JD(U) leaders had advocated for his inclusion in the cabinet.
Support for New Leadership and Unity Call
During his interaction with the media, Nishant extended his best wishes to the newly sworn-in Chief Minister, Samrat Choudhary, who took the oath of office and secrecy on Wednesday. "Samrat is my elder brother. My best wishes to him," he said, expressing hope that the CM would guide Bihar toward a new path of development. He affirmed that the party would work under Choudhary's leadership, who now heads the NDA government in the state.
The meeting at the JD(U) office, held two days after Nitish Kumar resigned as Chief Minister to hand over charge to his ally, served as a platform for leaders to share their sentiments and recollections of Nitish Kumar's public service. In a social media post following the gathering, Nishant revealed, "I urged all fellow companions to unite with dedication and work with commitment to make the organisation even stronger and more effective." He added that they have resolved to elevate the organization to new heights.
Grassroots Focus and Public Engagement
Nishant Kumar's decision underscores a strategic shift toward grassroots mobilization and party consolidation. By choosing to work among the people rather than in a government role, he aims to build a robust party foundation that can support future political endeavors. He also sought the blessings of the masses, emphasizing a people-centric approach in his political journey.
This development highlights the ongoing dynamics within Bihar's political landscape, as the JD(U) navigates leadership transitions and organizational priorities. Nishant's focus on party strengthening and fulfilling his father's legacy sets the stage for potential future political moves, while his support for the new CM indicates a collaborative stance within the ruling alliance.
