New Thiruvananthapuram District Panchayat Takes Oath

In a formal ceremony held on Sunday, the newly elected representatives of the Thiruvananthapuram district panchayat took their oaths of office, officially commencing their administrative term. The event marks the beginning of a new chapter in local governance for the district.

Oath-Taking Ceremony Led by Senior Official

The swearing-in was conducted under the supervision of District Collector Anu Kumari, who also serves as the district panchayat returning officer. She administered the oath of office to the senior-most member, CPM's B P Murali, who represents the Navaikulam division. Additional District Magistrate Vineeth T K, the deputy returning officer, was present at the event.

Following his own swearing-in, B P Murali proceeded to administer the oath to the rest of the elected members. The ceremony saw a total of 28 members pledge to serve their constituencies.

In keeping with tradition, most members took their oath in the name of God. The ceremony was attended by dignitaries including MLAs V Joy and D K Murali, and former district panchayat president D Suresh Kumar.

First Meeting and Future Plans

Immediately after the oath-taking ceremony, the newly constituted council held its first meeting. This gathering formally set the stage for the new administrative term. The district panchayat is now expected to prioritize and take up key development and welfare initiatives for Thiruvananthapuram in the coming weeks. The focus will likely be on addressing local needs and implementing projects across the district's various divisions.
