Nashik Races to Complete Key Road for 2027 Kumbh Mela, Commissioner Inspects Site
Nashik speeds up crucial road work for 2027 Kumbh Mela

With the 2027 Simhastha Kumbh Mela on the horizon, the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) is accelerating critical infrastructure projects to ensure a seamless experience for millions of devotees. A key focus is the development of major road corridors that will handle the massive pilgrim traffic.

Commissioner's On-Site Review of Vital Trimbak Road

Municipal Commissioner Manisha Khatri conducted a detailed inspection on Thursday of the ongoing strengthening work on a crucial 4.3-kilometer stretch. This section, from Khadkali Signal to Trimbak Naka and up to ITI Signal on Trimbak Road, forms the primary link between Nashik city and the holy town of Trimbakeshwar.

During her visit, Khatri reviewed excavation progress and issued clear directives to officials. She emphasized the need to complete all utility shifting—for water supply, drainage, electricity, and telecom lines—during the current construction phase itself. This proactive approach is intended to prevent the need for disruptive digging after the road is completed.

Safety and Traffic Flow Top Priorities

The commissioner's instructions also focused heavily on commuter safety and efficiency. Officials were directed to remove blind spots and obstructions at left turns to reduce congestion and minimize the risk of accidents. The road's design, proposed to be 45 metres wide, is incorporating traffic-friendly improvements. These measures are crucial to maintaining a steady vehicular flow when hundreds of thousands of devotees traverse this corridor during the Kumbh Mela.

A senior NMC official stated that the aim is to finish the work well ahead of Simhastha 2027. The goal is to ensure safe, smooth, and uninterrupted movement for all pilgrims traveling between Nashik and Trimbakeshwar. Beyond the mega event, the project is expected to enhance connectivity to parking areas and bring long-term benefits to the city's overall traffic management system.

Massive Infrastructure Push for Kumbh 2027

The Trimbak Road project is part of a much larger infrastructure overhaul underway in Nashik. The civic administration has already initiated various Kumbh Mela-related works with a total worth exceeding Rs 2,000 crore.

Among these, the construction of new Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) worth over Rs 1,400 crore has commenced. Other significant projects, including the development of additional roads and bridges, are slated to begin soon under the civic body's supervision. This comprehensive effort underscores the city's commitment to hosting a successful and well-organized Simhastha Kumbh Mela in 2027.
