Greer and Goyal to Hold Multiple Sessions for Trade Deal
United States Trade Representative Jamieson Greer has arrived in India to advance negotiations on a bilateral trade agreement. The visit underscores the growing economic partnership between the two nations.
In a social media post, US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor confirmed that Greer and Indian Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal are scheduled to hold multiple sessions to advance the US-India trade deal. The talks aim to resolve outstanding issues and expand market access for goods and services.
Key Areas of Focus in Trade Negotiations
The discussions are expected to cover tariff reductions, intellectual property rights, and digital trade rules. Both sides have been working to finalize a limited trade package before pursuing a broader agreement.
According to trade analysts, the US-India trade relationship is valued at over $190 billion annually. The current talks seek to reduce trade barriers and enhance investment flows.
Strategic Importance of the Visit
Greer's visit comes at a time when both countries are seeking to deepen economic ties amid global supply chain realignments. The US is India's largest trading partner, and India is a key partner in the Indo-Pacific region.
Ambassador Gor emphasized the commitment of both governments to reach a mutually beneficial outcome. The sessions are expected to build on previous negotiations held in Washington earlier this year.
