Nashik Commuters Grapple with Disruptions as Dwarka Junction Construction Alters Bus Routes

The ongoing construction of a grade separator at the Dwarka junction in Nashik, coupled with the diversion of heavy vehicle traffic to alternative roads, is creating significant challenges for daily commuters. A major issue has emerged as diversions implemented for city buses are preventing passengers from boarding or alighting at several regular and crucial bus stops along affected routes.

Specific Route Disruptions and Passenger Inconvenience

Commuters traveling from areas such as Nashik Road or Bytco, with destinations up to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkarnagar, are finding themselves unable to disembark at key stops including Bodhale Nagar, Nasardi Bridge, Pournima, or the Dwarka junction itself due to the rerouting. Passengers are being instructed to alight at the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkarnagar bus stop and then rely on auto-rickshaws to reach Bodhale Nagar, Nasardi Bridge, or Pournima. Similarly, those aiming for Dwarka must get off at Ayeshanagar and complete their journey on foot.

The problem is mirrored for travelers heading from Nashik city towards Dwarka, Kathe Galli signal, or Bodhale Nagar. They are being asked to disembark at the nearest possible point to their final destination, often resulting in unexpected walks or additional transport costs.

Communication Gaps and Daily Struggles

Senior officials from the city bus service have stated that route changes have been updated in their mobile application, and commuters can refer to it or contact a helpline for information. However, a significant number of people, particularly those unfamiliar with the changes or new to the city, are facing considerable difficulty. They often only learn about the diversions when told to disembark at an unfamiliar stop.

Daily scenes unfold at bus stops like Bodhale Nagar and Nasardi Bridge, where unaware commuters wait indefinitely for buses that no longer service those locations. Frequently, the information gap is bridged by auto-rickshaw drivers who stop to inform waiting passengers that buses are not plying from that stop.

A resident of Cidco, Manoj Pawar, shared his experience after visiting his daughter near Nasardi Bridge. He waited at the bus stand for nearly 15 minutes, as even his daughter was unaware of the route alteration, highlighting the widespread communication issue.

Broader Impact and Upcoming Challenges

The timing of these disruptions adds another layer of concern. With the HSC board examinations set to commence shortly, students relying on city buses face potential added stress and logistical hurdles if buses do not cover stops near their residential areas. This situation underscores the need for more effective public communication regarding the temporary route changes to minimize inconvenience for all affected commuters, especially during critical periods like exam season.
