Major Fire Engulfs Eight Warehouses in Nagpur, Causing Extensive Damage
A significant fire erupted on Monday morning in eight warehouses located in Bidgaon, under the Bahadura Nagar Panchayat in Nagpur, resulting in the destruction of goods valued at lakhs of rupees. The blaze, which reportedly started around 9 AM, originated in a foam warehouse and rapidly spread to adjacent scrap godowns, escalating the situation dramatically.
Explosions Intensify the Blaze
The fire grew more severe after approximately five gas cylinders exploded, transforming it into a massive inferno visible from a considerable distance. This incident occurred near Bhandewadi, where about 18 tin-shed warehouses, owned by Tushar Sahu, were leased to various traders dealing in materials such as foam, scrap, aluminium, plywood, and other industrial goods.
Severe Losses for Multiple Businesses
Among the most affected was Amit Ahluwalia's Shree Ramdhara Comforts Products Pvt Ltd, where foam and related materials were completely gutted. Heavy losses were also reported at:
- Rajesh Sahu's Navdhara Industries/Rampal Steel Industries: Scrap, iron, steel material, and office equipment were destroyed.
- Jayesh Sahu's Santosh Steel Enterprises: Similar materials and equipment suffered extensive damage.
- Vijay Shahane's Fensina Vintech Pvt Ltd: Warehouse incurred significant harm, with compressor, routing, and cleaning machines burnt.
- Trivendra Raghuvanshi's Asar Green Kabadi warehouse: A Tata Ace goods vehicle, a press machine, and other materials were reduced to ashes.
Additionally, two vacant godowns sustained damage, compounding the overall impact of the fire.
Firefighting Efforts and Outcome
Fire brigade teams from six stations of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), along with fire tenders from Bahadura Nagar Panchayat and Mihan, promptly responded to the scene. After nearly four hours of intense efforts, the firefighters successfully brought the fire under control. Fortunately, no casualties were reported, highlighting the effectiveness of the emergency response despite the extensive property damage.
The incident underscores the vulnerabilities in warehouse safety and the critical need for robust fire prevention measures in industrial areas. Authorities are likely to investigate the cause of the fire to prevent future occurrences and ensure better preparedness in similar situations.
