Mysuru MLA Issues Directives to Avert Summer Drinking Water Shortage

In a proactive move to address potential water scarcity, Chamundeshwari MLA GT Devegowda has issued specific instructions to local municipal authorities. The directive targets the Hootagally city municipal council along with the town panchayats of Rammanahalli, Srirampura, Bogadhi, and Kadakola.

Uninterrupted Water Supply Mandate

During a crucial meeting held on Thursday, MLA Devegowda emphasized the necessity of maintaining a continuous drinking water supply from both the Kabini and Melapura water projects. This measure is intended to remain in effect until the completion of the ongoing Hale Unduvadi project, which aims to enhance the region's water infrastructure.

Priority Areas Identified

The MLA specifically highlighted several residential zones that require immediate attention. Officials have been instructed to prioritize water distribution to Vasanth Nagar, Manasi Layout, Sardar Vallabh Bai Patel Nagar, Venkateshwar Layout, and their surrounding neighborhoods. This targeted approach aims to prevent water shortages in these densely populated areas.

Infrastructure Repairs and Maintenance

Devegowda directed municipal teams to promptly repair all damaged drinking water borewells within the Srirampura Town Panchayat jurisdiction. Additionally, he mandated that complaints related to underground drainage systems be addressed on a priority basis to prevent sanitation issues during the summer months.

District Commissioner's Supplementary Directives

District Commissioner Lakshmikanth Reddy reinforced these measures by ordering the redrilling of non-functional borewells. He clarified the existing water allocation agreement: out of the 60 million liters per day (MLD) pumped from the Kabini drinking water project, 40 MLD is reserved for the Mysuru City Corporation while 20 MLD is allocated to Urban Local Bodies within the Chamundeshwari assembly segment.

"The Mysuru City Corporation must adhere strictly to this distribution agreement to ensure equitable water access," stated DC Reddy.

The District Commissioner also addressed environmental concerns by instructing officials to impose penalties on individuals and vehicles involved in illegal waste dumping. This dual focus on water management and sanitation underscores the comprehensive approach being adopted.

The meeting was attended by key officials including MCC commissioner Sheikh Tanveer Asif, indicating the high-level coordination required to implement these summer preparedness measures effectively.
