Mysuru MLA Demands Action Over Alleged Lake Encroachment at Chamundi Hills
In a significant development in Mysuru, Krishnaraja MLA TS Srivatsa has leveled serious allegations against local officials for their perceived inaction regarding a large-scale encroachment on a lake at KC Layout, situated at the foothills of the revered Chamundi Hills. The MLA made these accusations during a press conference held at the site on Thursday, where he was accompanied by BJP workers and concerned residents.
Immediate Removal of Encroachment Demanded
During his visit to KC Layout, Srivatsa expressed frustration over the encroachment, which he claims involves the illegal construction of a compound wall on approximately 22 guntas of lake land. This area is notably close to a rajakaluve, or stormwater drain, raising environmental and urban planning concerns. The MLA emphasized the urgency of the situation, demanding immediate steps to clear the encroachment and restore the lake to its original state.
Historical and Legal Backing for Lake Classification
Srivatsa provided compelling evidence to support his claims, referencing key documents that classify the land as a lake. He highlighted that the Mysuru Urban Development Authority's comprehensive development plan, prepared in 2016, explicitly mentions the area as a lake. Furthermore, he pointed to a 1931 map that also records the land as lake property, underscoring its long-standing status as a water body.
The issue was initially brought to the MLA's attention by local residents' associations, who have been vocal about the encroachment. Srivatsa took the matter to the state assembly, where he questioned Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda. In his reply, the minister acknowledged that the land in question is indeed classified as a lake, according to official records.

"Instead of taking concrete steps to clear the encroachment, a vague response was given," he charged, expressing disappointment over the lack of proactive measures from authorities.
