MNS Leader Slams Maharashtra Government Over Drug Trafficking Crisis

MNS students' wing chief Amit Thackeray on Friday launched a sharp critique against the Maharashtra government, accusing it of remaining a "mute spectator" to the alarming scale of drug trafficking in the state. He demanded that police be given a free hand to take strict action against traffickers.

Alarming Quantities and Government Inaction

"The quantity of drugs being trafficked to the state is quite alarming. There is something terribly wrong with the government. It has failed to take action against the drug nexus," Thackeray told reporters after arriving in Pune for a three-day meeting with party workers. He emphasized that the problem extends beyond Mumbai, affecting every major city in Maharashtra.

Focus on Pune and Organizational Review

During his visit, Thackeray interacted with party workers in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad to assess the party's performance. "I am here to find out where the party is falling short in performance. Based on the review, some organizational changes will be made in the near future," he stated. A detailed report from these interactions will be submitted to MNS chief Raj Thackeray.

Call for Police Crackdown Following Goregaon Deaths

Thackeray strongly criticized the state government over the recent deaths of two individuals from an alleged drug overdose at a concert in Mumbai's Goregaon area. He argued that this incident underscores the urgent need for decisive action.

"The government needs to give a free hand to the police for a crackdown on the entire nexus. If the police take some strict action and set an example with the strictest possible punishment, I am sure, nobody will dare to get into drug trafficking in the state," he asserted, advocating for exemplary measures to deter future trafficking activities.
