MLA Demands Urgent Government Action Over Surveyors' Strike

In a pressing appeal, Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna has called upon Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to intervene immediately to resolve the ongoing strike by licensed surveyors, which has now stretched to 40 days. The prolonged industrial action has brought revenue department operations to a standstill, creating significant public inconvenience and administrative gridlock.

Widespread Disruption to Land-Related Services

Due to the statewide strike, critical land-related activities have completely halted. This includes essential services such as land surveying, precise measurement of properties, corrections to land records, and the transfer of accounts. The suspension of these functions has plunged numerous citizens into distress, particularly affecting vulnerable groups.

Farmers, low-income individuals seeking housing loans, and ordinary citizens are facing severe financial and administrative hardships, Suvarna emphasized. The inability to process land transactions or obtain necessary documentation has compounded difficulties for those involved in buying or selling property, applying for heirship documents, or accessing government schemes.

Scale of the Strike and Pending Applications

The strike involves approximately 6,000 licensed surveyors across the state, with 118 participants in Udupi district alone, including 22 specifically in Udupi taluk. This mass participation has led to a staggering backlog of applications.

  • In Udupi district, over 1,000 land survey applications are currently pending.
  • Within Udupi taluk, more than 350 applications await processing.

As a result, members of the public are forced to make daily visits to government offices in hopes of resolution, adding to their frustration and time constraints.

Call for Dialogue and Resolution

MLA Suvarna has insisted on urgent governmental intervention to restart surveying services and alleviate public suffering. "This serious issue requires immediate attention. There should be constructive discussions with the licensed surveyors to address their legitimate demands and swiftly end the strike," he stated.

He stressed that resuming these services is crucial for the public interest, enabling citizens to proceed with land transactions, legal documentation, and financial activities without further delay. The MLA's appeal underscores the need for a prompt resolution to restore normalcy in revenue department functions and support those impacted by the work stoppage.
