Landslide Reported as Rain Eases in Uttara Kannada

A minor landslide occurred in the early hours of July 1 at Devimane Ghat on the Sirsi–Kumta National Highway, following three to four days of continuous rain in Uttara Kannada district. The incident was reported as rainfall began to ease across the region, according to local authorities.

Details of the Incident

The landslide took place around 2:00 AM, blocking a portion of the highway for several hours. No casualties or injuries were reported. Teams from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the district administration were deployed to clear the debris, and traffic was restored by late morning.

Uttara Kannada Deputy Commissioner S. S. Pattar confirmed that the situation is under control. “We have cleared the debris and the highway is now open for traffic. Motorists are advised to drive cautiously as the terrain remains slippery,” he said.
