Marathwada Local Elections Conclude with Strong Voter Participation

Elections for the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar zilla parishad and panchayat samiti witnessed a robust voter turnout of approximately 65% by 5:30 PM on Saturday, as confirmed by election authorities. The polling process across the Marathwada region, which included the districts of Parbhani, Dharashiv, and Latur alongside Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, was largely peaceful and orderly.

District-Wise Turnout Figures Highlight Regional Engagement

Official data revealed varying levels of voter participation across the four districts. Latur district recorded a turnout of around 63.5% by 5:30 PM, demonstrating significant civic engagement. In contrast, Parbhani and Dharashiv districts reported lower figures, with nearly 56% and 50% turnout respectively as of 3:30 PM on Saturday. These statistics underscore the active involvement of the electorate in local governance decisions.

Peaceful Polling with Minor Technical Glitches

The election authorities noted that the polling process proceeded smoothly throughout the region, with only sporadic incidents requiring the replacement of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district collector Deelip Swami addressed concerns about law and order, stating, "There were attempts made to spread rumours about the situation at a couple of polling booths in the district. However, local authorities and police responded promptly to ensure stability."

Preparations Ensured Free and Fair Elections

To guarantee the integrity of the electoral process, extensive preparations were undertaken. Collector Swami highlighted that as many as three training sessions were conducted for election staff, which played a crucial role in facilitating free and fair polling for the zilla parishad and panchayat samiti. These measures helped maintain transparency and efficiency during the voting process.

Innovative Polling Booths Enhance Voter Experience

Voters from diverse age groups participated in the elections across the four districts of Marathwada. The elections featured innovative polling booth setups, including all-women-managed 'Sakhi booths' and other theme-based booths. These initiatives aimed to create a more inclusive and engaging voting environment, encouraging broader participation from the community.

The successful conduct of these local elections reflects the commitment of both authorities and citizens to democratic processes in the Marathwada region.
