Palghar: The Kasa police in Palghar district arrested a 45-year-old man on Tuesday for allegedly sexually assaulting a 13-year-old under the pretext of treating her for continuous bleeding during menstruation.
The accused, Shivram Parshu Savar, has been booked under the BNS sections of rape and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act.
According to police, the minor girl had been suffering from continuous bleeding during menstruation. On April 30, her family approached the accused, who claimed he could cure her using traditional remedies. Police said the accused later called the girl to a spot near Chari Pavan, close to Kasa, around midnight on May 4, on the pretext of performing a ritual and giving medicine. He allegedly asked the people accompanying the girl to remain inside the vehicle before taking her into a nearby forest area, where he raped her.
The accused also threatened to kill the girl if she disclosed the incident, due to which she remained silent initially. However, the victim later informed her family members, following which a complaint was lodged at Kasa police station on Monday.
