UP Govt Transfers 20 Senior IPS Officers; Aparna Kumar Becomes First Woman JCP Lucknow
Major IPS Reshuffle in UP: 20 Senior Officers Transferred

In a significant administrative overhaul, the Uttar Pradesh government on Wednesday ordered the transfer of 20 senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officers across the state. The reshuffle includes several key appointments in major cities and state headquarters, with a notable historic posting for a woman officer.

Historic Appointment and Key Postings in Lucknow & Prayagraj

The transfer list features some prominent changes. Aparna Kumar has been appointed as the Joint Commissioner of Police (JCP) in Lucknow. This appointment marks a historic moment as Kumar becomes the first woman IPS officer to hold this post in the state capital. Prior to this, she was serving as the Inspector General (IG) of Human Rights. An accomplished mountaineer with several records, her new role places her in a crucial law and order position.

In another major move, Jyoti Narayan has been posted as the Additional Director General (ADG) of Prayagraj. She was previously the ADG at the Police Training School (PTS) in Jalaun. Narayan takes over from Sanjeev Gupta, who has now been appointed as the ADG of Headquarters in Lucknow. Narayan brings a wealth of experience, having served as the IG for Law and Order and also in central government departments like Civil Aviation.

Widespread Reshuffle Across Multiple Departments

The reshuffle affected officers in various wings of the UP Police. Ram Kumar, who was the ADG of Human Rights, has been moved to the post of ADG Logistics at the DGP Headquarters. He has effectively swapped positions with Rajkumar. Prashant Kumar has been given the additional charge of ADG Administration.

Promotions and waiting list postings were also cleared. Tarun Gaba, the former IG of the Lucknow Range, has been promoted to the rank of ADG and posted as ADG Security at the Headquarters. Kiran S, who was on the waiting list after returning from a stint with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), has been appointed as the new IG of the Lucknow Range.

Other significant transfers include:

  • Ashutosh Kumar transferred from Additional Commissioner of Police (ACP) in Kanpur Nagar to ADG of the UP Police Recruitment and Promotion Board in Lucknow.
  • Modak Rajesh D Rao moved from IG Railways to IG Establishment at DGP HQ.
  • RK Bhardwaj shifted from IG Buildings and Welfare to IG Railways.
  • Anand Sureshrao Kulkarni transferred from IG/DIG (Technical Services) to the state's Anti-Corruption Organisation.
  • Amit Verma, the JCP of Crime and Headquarters in Lucknow, is now the IG of the Economic Offence Wing.

Promotions and Postings for Officers on Waitlist

The government also addressed the postings of several officers who were on the waiting list. Akhilesh Kumar Nigam has been promoted to the IG rank and posted in the CID of the UP Police. Rohan P Kanay, who was on wait, is the new IG Railways in Prayagraj. Imran has been appointed as the DIG of Buildings and Welfare, and Santosh Kumar Mishra is the new DIG at the PTS in Jalaun.

Further, N Kolanchi has been transferred from ACP Prayagraj to DIG Railways in Prayagraj. Rajeev Malhotra has been promoted to the IG rank in the Uttar Pradesh State Institute of Forensic Science (UPSIFS) in Lucknow. Vijay Dhul has been moved from the post of DIG for UP 112 (the emergency service) to ACP in Prayagraj.

This large-scale reshuffle is seen as an effort to bring fresh leadership and experience to key policing roles ahead of important administrative challenges in India's most populous state.
