Madurai Tragedy: Engineering Student and Uncle Die in Farm Electrocution Incident
A heartbreaking agricultural accident in Madurai district has claimed two lives and left an elderly man injured. The tragic incident occurred on Friday morning in T Narayanapuram village, where a 20-year-old engineering student and his 55-year-old uncle died of electrocution after coming into contact with a live electric wire on their family farmland.
Victims Identified as Student and TNSTC Driver
The deceased have been identified as Srikrishnan, a 20-year-old second-year engineering student from a Madurai college, and his uncle Adhinarayanan, 55, who worked as a driver for the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) in Thiruppuvanam, Sivaganga district. The injured party is 79-year-old Chinnathambi, Adhinarayanan's father, who sustained injuries during the rescue attempt.
Sequence of the Tragic Morning Events
According to police reports, the tragedy unfolded around 7:45 AM on Friday when Srikrishnan and Adhinarayanan visited their agricultural land to cut grass for their cattle. While engaged in this routine farming activity, Srikrishnan accidentally came into contact with a live electric wire that had snapped.
As the young student cried out for help, his uncle Adhinarayanan and grandfather Chinnathambi rushed to his assistance. Tragically, both rescuers also came into contact with the live wire during their attempt to save Srikrishnan.
Emergency Response and Hospitalization
Adhinarayanan died instantly at the scene from the electrocution. Alert villagers quickly transported the critically injured Srikrishnan and Chinnathambi to Vadipatti Government Hospital for emergency medical treatment.
Despite medical efforts, doctors at Vadipatti Government Hospital declared Srikrishnan dead upon arrival. The 79-year-old Chinnathambi, who sustained injuries in the rescue attempt, was referred to Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai for specialized treatment and further medical care.
Police Investigation Underway
Vadipatti police have registered a case regarding the tragic incident and launched a comprehensive investigation. Authorities are examining the circumstances surrounding the snapped electric wire and the safety conditions on the agricultural property. The investigation aims to determine the exact cause of the electrical failure and prevent similar tragedies in the future.
