Madurai District Launches EVM Awareness Campaign for 2026 Assembly Elections

In a significant move to bolster electoral preparedness, Madurai District Collector K J Praveen Kumar on Monday officially flagged off a fleet of electronic voting machine (EVM) demonstration vehicles from the Madurai District Collectorate. This initiative is designed to create widespread awareness and educate voters across all ten Assembly constituencies within the district, targeting the upcoming 2026 Assembly elections.

Comprehensive Outreach Across Constituencies

As part of this strategic effort, one dedicated awareness van has been deployed for each of the ten constituencies. These vehicles will serve as mobile demonstration units, traveling to various locations to familiarize citizens with the use of EVMs. The campaign specifically aims to address the needs of first-time voters and the elderly, who may have apprehensions or lack experience with electronic voting systems. By providing hands-on demonstrations, officials hope to build confidence and ensure a smooth voting process in the future.

Structured Schedule and Future Expansion

The EVM demonstration vans will operate on a fixed schedule, systematically covering both rural villages and urban areas. Key locations such as busy junctions, bustling markets, and major bus stands have been prioritized to maximize public engagement. Collector Praveen Kumar also announced plans to extend similar mobile demonstrations to colleges in the near future, aiming to reach a younger demographic of students and encourage their participation in the democratic process.

Officials Present at the Flag-Off Ceremony

The flag-off event was attended by several key officials, underscoring the importance of this voter education drive. Among those present were the district collector's personal assistant (Elections) Ranganathan and revenue divisional officer Karunakaran, along with other administrative personnel. Their involvement highlights the collaborative effort to ensure the success of this awareness campaign, which is seen as a crucial step in preparing for the 2026 Assembly elections and fostering greater electoral transparency in Madurai district.
