Lucknow's U-Turn Traffic Model Extended to Charbagh Railway Station Road
In a strategic move to combat persistent traffic woes, Lucknow's traffic authorities have expanded the city's innovative U-turn traffic model to the Charbagh Railway Station road. This initiative follows successful implementations at Hazratganj and IGP crossing, aiming to alleviate chronic congestion in one of the city's busiest zones.
Revised Traffic Flow for Charbagh Area
Under the new system, vehicles traveling from Alambagh towards Charbagh will no longer be permitted to make a right turn at Ravindralaya Tiraha. Instead, drivers must proceed straight towards KKC, execute a U-turn, and then return to take a left turn towards Charbagh. Similarly, vehicles exiting Charbagh will be directed to turn left at Ravindralaya Tiraha, continue to Gupta Tiraha, perform a U-turn, and then proceed to their destinations.
This redesign eliminates direct right turns at critical junctions, forcing traffic into a loop of designated U-turns. Officials emphasize that this approach reduces conflict points that typically trigger gridlocks, keeping vehicles in motion rather than crossing paths.
Addressing High-Pressure Traffic Zone
The Charbagh belt is a high-pressure area due to the railway station and its connectivity to the metro system, experiencing relentless traffic throughout the day. The U-turn model is part of a broader city strategy to reshape traffic movement at major intersections, with approximately 10 crossings currently under this system—some in trial phases and others stabilized.
Raveena Tyagi, DCP Traffic, highlighted the gradual rollout, stating that the plan is designed to enhance flow and minimize stoppages. The focus remains on simplicity: ensuring continuous movement to prevent bottlenecks in congested urban corridors.
This expansion reflects Lucknow's ongoing efforts to modernize its traffic management, leveraging systematic changes to tackle urban mobility challenges effectively.
