Lucknow's First Open-Air Skating Zone and Multi-Sports Arena Nears Completion

The state capital of Uttar Pradesh is poised to welcome its inaugural open-air skating zone alongside a comprehensive multi-sports arena, currently under development at Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Park in the Gomti Nagar locality. According to officials from the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA), this ambitious project is rapidly approaching its final stages of completion, marking a significant enhancement to the city's recreational infrastructure.

Project Overview and Development Details

Spanning an expansive area exceeding 3 acres adjacent to the park's picturesque lake, this state-of-the-art facility represents an investment of approximately Rs 6 crore. The LDA has meticulously planned the complex to cater to diverse sporting interests, dividing it into two distinct yet complementary sections.

The first section proudly hosts Lucknow's pioneering open skate park, a dedicated space designed specifically for novice and young skaters. This innovative skating rink occupies about one acre of land and has been constructed following international design standards, incorporating valuable inputs from seasoned sports experts. Authorities have confirmed that the skating zone is fully operational and ready for immediate public use.

Multi-Sports Arena Features and Specifications

The remaining portion of the complex has been transformed into a versatile multi-sports arena featuring multiple specialized courts. The centerpiece of this section is a box cricket court laid with premium Mangere grass turf imported directly from Vietnam. This sophisticated turf not only replicates the authentic feel of natural playing surfaces but also demonstrates remarkable versatility by accommodating football matches as needed.

Complementing the cricket facility are separate, professionally designed courts for pickleball, tennis, and badminton. These courts utilize durable synthetic surfaces engineered to withstand frequent usage while minimizing maintenance requirements. The entire arena has been arranged in an open layout configuration that promotes optimal natural airflow while ensuring clear visibility across all playing areas.

Key Safety and Operational Features:
  • Comprehensive guardrail installations surrounding all playing zones to ensure participant safety
  • Advanced lighting systems installed throughout both sections enabling evening and nighttime usage
  • Strategic placement to maximize natural ventilation and visibility
  • Professional-grade playing surfaces requiring minimal maintenance

Operational Plans and Future Developments

With most construction and finishing work now complete, authorities have announced that initial access to the facility will be provided free of charge. The complex will first open to regular park visitors, including local residents who traditionally utilize open spaces for various sports activities. Children and young athletes are anticipated to be primary beneficiaries of the skating zone.

Looking ahead, officials have indicated plans to appoint qualified coaches for skating, pickleball, and other sports following comprehensive trials. Operational management will involve deployment of approximately six security personnel, while specialized agencies will oversee maintenance and cleaning responsibilities to ensure the facility remains in pristine condition.

This development represents a significant stride in Lucknow's urban recreational landscape, providing residents with world-class sporting infrastructure that promotes physical activity, skill development, and community engagement in a safe, professionally designed environment.
