Haryana Khap Demands Legal Action Against Rapper Badshah Over Schoolgirl Dance Video
In a significant development, members of the Nehra Khap in Rohtak's Meham have submitted a formal memorandum to the Chief Minister of Haryana, Nayab Singh Saini, through the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) on Friday. The memorandum calls for stringent legal measures against popular rapper Badshah and the staff of a government school involved in a recently released Haryanvi song.
Protest Against Alleged Cultural Insensitivity
The demand stems from a protest against the song, which allegedly depicts schoolgirls dancing on the roof of a Haryana Roadways bus while wearing their school uniforms. The Khap has raised objections to what they term as objectionable lyrics in the track, arguing that it undermines the state's cultural values and social norms.
Sandeep Nehra, the youth national president of the Nehra Khap from Nindana village, highlighted specific concerns. He pointed out that the video shows schoolgirls performing on top of a bus, which he described as inappropriate. Additionally, Nehra objected to a line in the song where Badshah refers to himself and talks about making girls his ghodi (mare), labeling it as highly objectionable and condemnable.
Demands for Legal and Administrative Action
The Khap has made several key demands in their memorandum:
- Initiate legal proceedings against Badshah, with calls for his imprisonment.
- Impose an immediate ban on the controversial song to prevent further dissemination.
- Take disciplinary action against the principal and teachers of the government school whose students were allegedly used in the dance sequence, including demands for their dismissal.
Nehra emphasized that Haryana is renowned for its rich culture, strong social values, and tradition of respecting women. He argued that songs of this nature damage the cultural identity of the state and send a harmful message to the younger generation, potentially eroding social norms.
Appeal to State Authorities
Registering a strong protest, the Nehra Khap has urged Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda to take swift action. They have appealed for the government to address the issue promptly to uphold the state's dignity and protect its cultural heritage.
This incident highlights ongoing tensions between modern entertainment trends and traditional values in Haryana, sparking debates about artistic expression versus social responsibility.
