Kerala Transport Minister Rejects UDF's Vehicle Modification Pledge

Transport Minister K B Ganesh Kumar on Friday strongly dismissed the statement made by opposition leader V D Satheesan that the United Democratic Front (UDF) would relax norms for vehicle modifications if voted to power in Kerala. Kumar asserted that neither Satheesan nor Lok Sabha opposition leader Rahul Gandhi could implement such relaxations, as the rules are clearly defined under central legislation.

Central Law Prevents Norm Relaxation

Satheesan had earlier declared that if the UDF assumes power, modifications of vehicles that do not compromise safety standards would be legalized. However, Kumar countered this by emphasizing that the regulations governing vehicle modifications are established by central law, making any state-level relaxation impossible without amendments at the national level. He further criticized the UDF's election manifesto, stating that none of the guarantees promised would be feasible. Kumar warned that implementing pledges made by Rahul Gandhi and the UDF could potentially harm Kerala's development and stability.

Confidence in LDF's Electoral Prospects

Amidst the political debate, Kumar expressed unwavering confidence in his re-election from the Pathanapuram constituency, where he faces competition from UDF candidate Jyothikumar Chamakkala. He downplayed the notion of a tough contest between the Left Democratic Front (LDF) and UDF, predicting that the LDF would secure another term in power. Kumar noted that while polling was decent, it was not phenomenal, suggesting that a significant increase in voter turnout would be necessary for such a description. He praised the Pinarayi Vijayan-led government, highlighting its positive achievements and absence of negatives.

Rejection of Anti-Incumbency and Minority Consolidation Claims

Kumar also rejected the widespread perception of minority consolidation in favor of the UDF, asserting that minority communities continue to support the LDF. He dismissed any anti-incumbency wave against the current government, arguing that there are no politically significant issues undermining the goodwill earned by the Vijayan administration. According to Kumar, this favorable public sentiment positions the LDF for a third consecutive term in office, reinforcing his optimism about the election outcome.
