Karnataka Official's Tragic Suicide in Office, Video Blames Superior
A 60-year-old assistant director working with the social welfare department in Karnataka was discovered deceased in his office in Pavagada, Tumakuru district, on Friday evening. The individual, identified as Mallikarjun, was scheduled for retirement in the final week of March, making this incident particularly distressing.
Video Message Points to Harassment as Motive
Prior to his death, Mallikarjun sent a video message via WhatsApp to his friends, explicitly stating his intention to commit suicide. In the emotional recording, he directly blamed his joint director, Krishnappa, for relentless harassment that he claimed drove him to take this extreme step.
"My family has looked after me well. I should have helped them, but Krishnappa's harassment has forced me to take this step. God will punish him. Also, law will take care of him, and my family members need not take revenge," Mallikarjun is heard saying in the video, as reported by authorities.
Family Details and Police Action
Police investigations revealed that Mallikarjun's wife and children reside in Tumakuru, while he lived with his mother in Pavagada. Following a formal complaint lodged by his wife, the Pavagada Town police have registered an abetment case against Krishnappa, initiating a legal process to investigate the allegations of harassment.
This case highlights serious workplace issues within government departments, raising questions about employee welfare and mental health support systems. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, with many calling for a thorough probe into the circumstances leading to Mallikarjun's tragic demise.
