Karnataka Government Approves Two New Police Stations in Southern Districts

The Karnataka government has officially sanctioned the establishment of two new police stations, one each in Mysuru and Chamarajanagar, as announced on Friday. This decision is part of a larger state-wide initiative to bolster law enforcement infrastructure, with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah revealing in the recent budget that a total of 12 police stations will be opened across Karnataka, including two specifically in the southern region.

Details of the New Police Stations

In Mysuru, the new Udayagiri South police station has been approved to address law and order challenges and control crime rates in the northeastern part of the city. Commissioner of Police Seema Latkar explained that the existing Udayagiri police station's jurisdiction has been bifurcated into north and south stations to enhance operational efficiency and responsiveness.

Meanwhile, in Chamarajanagar, a new traffic police station has been sanctioned for Gundlupet. Chamarajanagar SP M Muthuraj highlighted that this station will play a crucial role in managing vehicular movement in the area, which experiences approximately 200 road accidents annually, including non-fatal incidents. The Gundlupet traffic station will have jurisdiction over three law and order police stations: Terakanambi, Beguar, and Gundlupet.

Broader Law Enforcement Initiatives

In addition to the new police stations, Commissioner Latkar addressed queries about the establishment of an Anti-Narcotics Task Force. She confirmed that a notification has been issued by the Director General of Police (DGP) in this regard, and measures will soon be implemented accordingly. Currently, the deputy commissioner of police serves as the nodal officer for the anti-narcotics force in Mysuru city.

This expansion of police infrastructure underscores the Karnataka government's commitment to improving public safety and reducing crime. By strategically locating new stations in high-need areas like Mysuru and Chamarajanagar, authorities aim to enhance community policing, streamline traffic management, and strengthen overall law enforcement capabilities across the state.
