In a significant move aimed at honouring the state's military heritage and supporting its armed forces community, Jharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar has issued a series of directives to state officials. The instructions were given during the 17th managing committee meeting of the Sainik Kalyan Board held in Ranchi on Tuesday.
Boosting Military Tourism and Heritage
Governor Gangwar issued a clear directive to promote the Jharkhand War Memorial, located at Dipatoli in Ranchi, as a major tourist destination. This move is expected to enhance public awareness and reverence for the sacrifices made by soldiers from the region.
In a parallel initiative focused on preserving the legacy of individual valour, the Governor instructed officials to develop Jari village into a model habitat. Jari is the native village of Param Veer Chakra (PVC) awardee and martyr Albert Ekka, whose bravery during the 1971 Indo-Pak war is legendary. Developing his village is seen as a tribute to his ultimate sacrifice.
Addressing Welfare of Soldiers and Agniveers
The Governor took a proactive stance on the welfare of serving and former personnel. He directed that pending personal and administrative works of army personnel should be expedited and disposed of early when they are home on leave, to prevent them from facing bureaucratic hassles during their precious time with family.
A key focus was also on the future of Agniveers who have completed their service under the Agnipath scheme. Governor Gangwar specifically inquired about the number of such Agniveers who have returned to Jharkhand and advised the state government to actively provide them opportunities in the police and other state services, ensuring their skills are utilised for continued public service.
Other Key Discussions and Proposals
The high-level meeting, attended by Chief Secretary Avinash Kumar, Principal Secretary Nitin Madan Kulkarni, and other senior officials, also deliberated on several other important projects:
- Opening a new Sainik School in Dumka to expand quality military-focused education in the state.
- Renovation and development of the Sainik market in Ranchi to better serve the ex-servicemen community.
- Establishing a dedicated training centre for tribal youths to coach and prepare them for entry into defence services, leveraging the region's demographic potential.
These comprehensive discussions underscore the state administration's focus on military welfare, heritage conservation, and creating sustainable opportunities for the youth aspiring to serve the nation.
