Violent Clash Erupts at Jalgaon Police Station Over Municipal Tender Dispute
A tense political confrontation escalated into physical violence at the Shanipeth police station in Jalgaon on Saturday evening, stemming from a contentious dispute over a Jalgaon Municipal Corporation tender. The altercation resulted in significant injuries and multiple arrests, highlighting ongoing political rivalries in the region.
Seven Individuals Arrested Following Police Station Melee
The Shanipeth police have taken decisive action by arresting seven individuals from opposing political factions involved in the violent incident. Authorities have registered a formal case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), specifically citing charges of rioting and deterring public servants from performing their official duties. This legal response underscores the seriousness with which law enforcement is treating this breach of public order within a police facility.
Three People Injured During Escalating Confrontation
The violent exchange left three individuals with injuries requiring medical attention. The injured parties have been identified as Kailas Sonawane, his nephew Sagar Sonawane, and Hitesh Thakre. Their conditions are being monitored following treatment for injuries sustained during the physical altercation that unfolded within the police station premises.
SP Maheswar Reddy Details the Sequence of Events
Speaking to reporters in Jalgaon, Superintendent of Police Maheswar Reddy provided a comprehensive account of the incident's progression. "The Jalgaon Municipal Corporation had floated a tender for specific municipal work," Reddy explained. "An initial confrontation occurred in the afternoon between supporters of Kalpesh Sonawane and Rahul Thakre regarding the filing procedures for this tender."
Reddy continued, "Later that evening, Kalpesh's father and former BJP corporator Kailas Sonawane, along with Thakre's supporters, were brought to the Shanipeth police station to register complaints against one another in separate rooms. The situation deteriorated when Thakre, who was absent during the afternoon clash, arrived with additional supporters and allegedly began assaulting Kailas Sonawane, accusing him of abusing his sister. This triggered a second, more violent confrontation that police personnel eventually managed to control."
Multiple FIRs Filed as Police Deploy Heavy Security
In addition to the First Information Reports filed by the two opposing parties against each other, the Shanipeth police have registered a separate FIR against members of both groups involved in the disturbance. Immediately following the incident, authorities implemented a substantial police bandobast (security arrangement) at the police station to prevent any further escalation of violence and maintain public order in the area.
Historical Political Rivalry Fuels Current Conflict
The confrontation between Rahul Thakre and Kailas Sonawane appears rooted in longstanding political animosity dating back to the Jalgaon municipal corporation elections. Political observers note that Thakre's wife contested the election as an independent candidate but lost to Kailas's daughter by a narrow margin, creating persistent tensions between the two political families that have now manifested in this violent police station incident.
The Jalgaon Municipal Corporation tender dispute has thus exposed deeper political fault lines in the region, with law enforcement now tasked with maintaining order while legal proceedings move forward against those involved in Saturday's violent clash at the Shanipeth police station.
