Jaipur District Collector Announces Major Road Safety Initiative
District Collector Sandesh Nayak convened a crucial meeting of the Jaipur District Road Safety Committee on Friday, unveiling an extensive public awareness campaign focused on enhancing road safety across the city. The comprehensive drive is scheduled to commence in April and will span a period of three months, targeting multiple aspects of traffic management and infrastructure improvement.
Infrastructure Overhaul and Maintenance
During the three-month campaign, authorities will undertake a series of critical infrastructure tasks designed to create safer road conditions for all users. The planned activities include the repair of city roads and the rectification of sewage manholes to prevent accidents. Significant attention will be paid to installing proper signage and repainting zebra crossings to ensure clear visibility for pedestrians.
Furthermore, the initiative will involve the repair of road dividers and the maintenance of traffic lights to improve traffic flow. The white lane markings in the centre of roads will be freshly repainted, and facilities will be provided to assist pedestrians in crossing roads safely, addressing a key concern in urban traffic management.
Strict Enforcement of Traffic Regulations
Officials emphasized that strict legal action will be taken against drivers violating traffic rules throughout the campaign. Enforcement measures will target drivers of overloaded vehicles, those who run traffic signals, individuals failing to wear seat belts or helmets, motorists driving under the influence of alcohol, and anyone using mobile phones while operating a vehicle. This enhanced enforcement aims to create a deterrent effect and promote responsible driving behavior.
Educational Outreach in Schools
District Collector Sandesh Nayak highlighted that the campaign will include a significant educational component targeting students. Information regarding traffic rules will be provided free of cost to school students across Jaipur. "Students will be sensitised and made aware through comprehensive instruction covering the rules of traffic lights, the proper way and time to cross roads, and how to prevent road accidents," Nayak stated during the meeting.
This educational initiative represents a proactive approach to building long-term road safety consciousness among younger generations, potentially reducing future accident rates through early awareness.
Addressing Accident Black Spots
The meeting also addressed the critical issue of accident black spots in Jaipur. Out of 88 identified black spots across the city, permanent remedial work is currently in progress at 34 locations. Corrective measures have already been completed at 53 other sites, demonstrating ongoing efforts to mitigate high-risk areas. The remaining locations will likely receive attention as part of the broader safety campaign, though specific timelines were not detailed in the announcement.
