The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Protection Agency (Hydraa) has taken decisive action to reclaim and protect valuable government land from illegal occupation. On Friday, the agency successfully secured 12.1 acres of government land in Gandanguda village, located in the Gandipet mandal of Ranga Reddy district.
Land Details and History of Encroachment
The protected area is part of Survey No. 43, where a total of 26 acres is officially recorded as government property. Over time, portions of this land were allocated for specific public uses. One acre was earlier allotted for a power substation, while 9 acres were given to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) for garbage dumping. However, the remaining land faced a gradual takeover by encroachers, which eventually prompted local residents to file a formal complaint through the Hydraa Prajavani portal.
Official Action and Field Inspection
Acting swiftly on the public grievance, Hydraa commissioner AV Ranganath ordered a joint field inspection. Officials from Hydraa, along with representatives from the concerned departments, visited the site to verify the land records and assess the situation. The inspection confirmed that the land in question was indeed government property and was being encroached upon illegally.
Following this verification, Hydraa moved to physically secure the land. On Friday, fencing work was carried out around the 12.1-acre plot to clearly demarcate the boundary and prevent any further unauthorized occupation. The agency also installed boards identifying the area as government land to warn potential encroachers.
Safeguarding Religious Structures Within the Site
Officials noted a sensitive aspect of the operation: a temple and a mosque already exist within the demarcated area. Hydraa ensured that the fencing work was carried out with care to safeguard these existing religious structures. The action was focused solely on securing the vacant government land around them to halt future encroachments, respecting the sanctity of the places of worship.
This proactive measure by Hydraa highlights the importance of citizen involvement in protecting public assets and the administration's responsiveness to such complaints. It sets a precedent for tackling land encroachment issues systematically in and around Hyderabad.
