CPM Leader Confident of LDF's Third Consecutive Victory in Kerala
In a bold assertion of political strength, CPM state secretary M V Govindan has categorically dismissed any possibility of an anti-incumbency wave against the Pinarayi Vijayan-led government in Kerala. Speaking at a news conference following the CPM state secretariat meeting in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday, Govindan expressed unwavering confidence that the Left Democratic Front (LDF) would sweep back to power for a historic third consecutive term, securing over 90 seats in the legislative assembly.
Addressing Voter Statistics and Opposition Claims
Govindan provided detailed analysis of election statistics to counter opposition narratives. He explained that the apparent increase in polling percentage to over 78% was actually the result of Special Intensive Revision (SIR), which led to a reduction in the total number of voters. "While polling percentage has increased according to election commission data, the actual number of voters in at least 94 constituencies has decreased," Govindan stated.
He highlighted that the Thiruvananthapuram constituency witnessed the most significant reduction, with voter numbers declining by over 47,000. Additionally, 71 constituencies reported lower polling percentages compared to the 2021 elections. "If 2.09 crore persons voted in 2021 elections, the numbers have decreased to 2.08 crore in 2026. This means fewer people exercised their franchise despite the higher polling percentage," Govindan clarified.
Rejecting UDF Rhetoric and BJP Prospects
The CPM leader strongly refuted claims from United Democratic Front (UDF) leaders about winning over 100 seats and unseating the LDF government. "These assertions are nothing but rhetoric without any factual basis," Govindan declared. He emphasized that feedback gathered during extensive squad work indicated solid public support for the LDF, particularly among the working class.
Govindan made several definitive predictions about the election outcome:
- All sitting LDF MLAs will be re-elected
- BJP will not win any seats, including in their traditional stronghold of Nemom
- Former CPM functionaries who contested against party candidates will not achieve victory
Defending Campaign Strategy and Policy Positions
The CPM state secretary defended the front's decision to project Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan as the face of their campaign. "There is absolutely no regret within LDF circles about this strategic choice," he affirmed. Govindan also addressed opposition leader V D Satheesan's statement about entering political hibernation if UDF fails to come to power, suggesting such declarations are common and shouldn't be taken seriously.
On controversial social issues, Govindan justified CPM's support for the interreligious marriage involving the Kumbh Mela-famous girl and a Maharashtra native. "We firmly support interreligious marriages. All age-related details were thoroughly verified by police, temple authorities, and local self-government officials," he explained, reinforcing the party's progressive stance on social matters.
Govindan concluded by reiterating that the LDF's accurate understanding of public sentiment through grassroots engagement confirms there is no anti-incumbency factor substantial enough to oust the government from power, setting the stage for what he predicts will be a decisive electoral victory.
