Bathinda: In a strong protest against the police's refusal to allow them into Chandigarh on Friday to submit a memoranda to Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, farm organisations burnt effigies of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Punjab governor in several villages on Saturday.
Protest Over Denied Entry
The activists stated that their intention was to discuss the adequate representation of Punjab in the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) and the adjudication of inter-state waters according to riparian law. However, the police not only stopped them from entering Chandigarh but also used water cannons and tear gas shells to forcibly prevent their movement.
Next Course of Action
The farm organisations have called a meeting on May 21 to decide the further course of action for agitations. The incident has escalated tensions between the farming community and the state authorities.
