PMC Reviews Census 2027: Technical Hurdles Addressed

The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) headquarters-level census coordination committee, chaired by municipal commissioner Yashpal Meena, conducted a thorough review of the house-listing and housing census drive currently underway for Census 2027. During meetings held on Friday and Saturday with officials from the New Capital Circle (NCC), Patliputra, Bankipore, and Kankarbagh circles, the committee addressed critical technical challenges that have been hindering progress at the field level.

Technical Training and Data Entry Issues

The primary focus of the meeting was the resolution of issues related to data entry through the mobile application. Trainers provided live demonstrations and hands-on guidance to enumerators and supervisors to ensure error-free data entry and uploading. This step is crucial for maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the census data.

Progress Report and Directives

Recent progress reports within the PMC jurisdiction indicate that while census work has been completed in 13 House Listing Blocks (HLB) and is nearing completion in 2,039 others, the committee has issued strict directives for approximately 900 blocks where the pace of work was found to be slow. These directives aim to accelerate the enumeration process and meet the deadlines set for Census 2027.

Operational Structure

The operation involves 2,986 enumeration blocks across 75 wards, overseen by executive officers acting as charge census officers. The distribution of blocks is as follows:

  • 637 blocks in NCC
  • 553 blocks in Patliputra
  • 527 blocks in Azimabad
  • 495 blocks in Kankarbagh
  • 464 blocks in Bankipore
  • 310 blocks in Patna City

To ensure the integrity of the door-to-door data collection, the PMC has deployed 563 supervisors to coordinate the efforts of individual enumerators assigned to each block. This supervisory structure is designed to monitor progress, provide on-the-ground support, and resolve any issues that arise during the enumeration process.

The committee emphasized the importance of timely and accurate data collection for the success of Census 2027. With the technical challenges being addressed and strict directives in place, the PMC aims to complete the house-listing and housing census within the stipulated timeframe.
