Family Intensifies Call for CBI Investigation Amidst Police Scrutiny
The family of Gagandeep Singh Randhawa, a District Manager at the Punjab Warehousing Corporation, has voiced profound dissatisfaction with the ongoing police investigation into his death. In a media briefing held on Wednesday, relatives, including his wife Upinder Kaur, reiterated their urgent demand for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe, citing concerns over alleged preferential treatment and procedural lapses.
Allegations of VIP Treatment and Police Inaction
Upinder Kaur raised serious questions about the conduct of the Punjab Police, accusing them of providing "VIP treatment" to former minister Laljit Singh Bhullar, who is currently in custody. She highlighted that Bhullar's supporters were permitted to gather and chant slogans outside court premises during his production, while media access was restricted. "This raises grave doubts about the police's intentions. We firmly insist on a CBI inquiry to ensure justice for Gagandeep," she asserted, emphasizing the need for an impartial investigation.
Absconding Accused and Political Appeals
The family further pointed out that two key suspects, Sukhdev Singh (Bhullar's father) and Dilbagh Singh (his personal assistant), remain at large despite ongoing efforts. In response, they have appealed to all Members of Parliament from Punjab to formally request Union Home Minister Amit Shah to initiate a CBI investigation. So far, five MPs, including Gurjeet Aujla, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Dharamvir Gandhi, and SAD MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal, have submitted letters supporting this demand, underscoring the case's political significance.
Arrest Details and Ongoing Police Efforts
Laljit Bhullar was apprehended in Mandi Gobindgarh on Monday, though he had previously claimed on social media to have surrendered voluntarily. He is currently on a five-day police remand and is scheduled to appear in court on Saturday. The arrest is linked to the suicide of Gagandeep Singh Randhawa, with authorities stating that investigations are actively progressing. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Investigations) Ravinder Pal Singh Sandhu confirmed that raids are being conducted to locate and arrest the absconding individuals, assuring the public of continued diligence in the case.
The situation remains tense as the family's calls for transparency and accountability grow louder, highlighting broader issues of governance and law enforcement in Punjab.
