DMK MLA Rejects Opposition Claims on Karur Election Sheds

In a firm rebuttal to allegations from the opposition, DMK MLA V Senthilbalaji has categorically denied claims that sheds erected in Karur were intended for confining and bribing voters. Speaking to reporters on Sunday, the former minister asserted that these structures were established solely for legitimate election-related activities and had received explicit permission from the Election Commission of India.

Structures Set Up with Official Approval

Senthilbalaji emphasized that the sheds were constructed on private land after obtaining necessary approvals from the Election Commission. He clarified that there is no so-called 'Erode formula' or 'Karur formula' at play, dismissing such notions as baseless. Instead, these offices serve as designated workspaces where DMK functionaries, including booth-level agents (BLA-2s) and booth-level coordinators (BLCs), can collaborate and execute their election duties efficiently.

Allegations Stem from Lack of Support, Says MLA

The MLA attributed the allegations to the AIADMK-BJP alliance's perceived lack of public support and cadre strength. "They do not have public support or sufficient cadre strength to carry out election work. Even if an office comes up, they have no workers who can sit inside," Senthilbalaji stated. He suggested that the opposition's claims were a reflection of their inability to mobilize grassroots workers effectively.

Confidence in DMK's Electoral Prospects

Expressing confidence in the DMK's performance, Senthilbalaji predicted a significant defeat for the AIADMK-BJP alliance across all four constituencies in Karur. He framed the electoral contest as a battle between the 'Tamil Nadu team' and the 'Delhi team,' echoing Chief Minister M.K. Stalin's rhetoric. Highlighting the state government's development initiatives, he noted that over the past five years, the DMK administration has implemented projects worth approximately ₹5,000 crore in Karur, underscoring their commitment to regional progress.

The MLA's statements come amid heightened political tensions in Tamil Nadu as election activities intensify. By defending the sheds as lawful election offices, Senthilbalaji aims to counter narratives of impropriety and reinforce the DMK's adherence to electoral norms. The issue has sparked debate over the use of temporary structures during campaigns, with the opposition continuing to question their purpose despite the MLA's clarifications.
