DMK's Egmore Candidate Expresses Unwavering Confidence in Electoral Victory
In a bold declaration from Chennai, Prasanna Sundaram, popularly known as Tamilan Prasana, the DMK's candidate for the Egmore constituency and a practising lawyer, has asserted that his party will secure a decisive win regardless of opposition efforts. "Even if all 16,000-odd first-time voters back TVK, the DMK will still win Egmore by a massive margin," he stated with conviction, highlighting the party's stronghold in the area.
Assessing Opposition Strength and Campaign Preparedness
When questioned about the strength of his opponents, Prasanna Sundaram downplayed the challenges posed by AIADMK and TVK. "They are yet to gain organisational ground," he remarked, noting that AIADMK struggled to mobilise crowds for their campaign and lacked a campaign office until recently. In contrast, he emphasised his proactive approach: "I set up this campaign office in Purasawalkam well before the polls were announced and even before my candidature was confirmed." He concluded that he does not face a meaningful challenge from either party, underscoring DMK's strategic advantage.
Clarifying Candidate Change and Party Dynamics
Addressing queries about the DMK's decision to change its candidate, Prasanna Sundaram clarified that there were no personal or political agendas behind the move. "Our Thalaivar (leader) chief minister M K Stalin is the ultimate authority to take such decisions," he explained, reaffirming party discipline. He shared his long-standing commitment to the constituency, having worked there for 15 years, with his name previously proposed but not selected for various reasons. "This time, the party decided to field me," he added, expressing gratitude for the opportunity.
Tackling Encroachment and Housing Issues with a Balanced Approach
On the rampant encroachment menace in Egmore, Prasanna Sundaram outlined a balanced strategy. His priority is to construct at least 1,000 houses to provide dignified living for slum dwellers on available lands near Ooteri burial ground, Thidir Nagar, and Kannigapuram grounds near Nehru Stadium. "I will ensure that their livelihood is not affected," he assured, highlighting his focus on the working-class population. Plans include enrolling residents in welfare boards for unorganised workers to secure basic benefits and providing vocational training for women to enhance their earning potential.
Confidence in Victory Based on Solid Voter Base
When asked about his prospects of winning, Prasanna Sundaram responded with absolute certainty. "Absolutely," he declared, pointing to the party's robust voter base of over 1 lakh in the constituency. He referenced the 2021 election results, where DMK's I Paranthaman won with a 33% vote margin, as evidence of the party's enduring strength. This historical performance, combined with his grassroots efforts, fuels his optimism for a successful outcome in the upcoming polls.
