Dhanbad Municipal Elections: Diverse Agendas Shape Campaign

Dhanbad Municipal Elections Gain Momentum as Campaigning Intensifies

With the official commencement of the municipal elections and the allotment of election symbols, campaigning has picked up significant pace across the Dhanbad Municipal Corporation (DMC) area. Mayoral candidates, hailing from diverse professional backgrounds, have begun actively reaching out to voters, presenting their distinct priorities and development agendas, which are largely shaped by their unique work experiences and business exposures.

Engineer-Educationist Highlights Drinking Water Crisis

Engineer and educationist Ravi Chaudhary, who owns the K K Group of Institutions, has identified the acute drinking water crisis in the DMC region as his foremost concern. While acknowledging that the city faces multiple civic issues, Chaudhary emphasized that ensuring adequate and equitable water supply remains his top priority. He has proposed implementing a ward-level water tank system to improve distribution and guarantee that every household receives sufficient potable water, addressing a critical need in the community.

Restaurant Entrepreneur Focuses on Food Safety and Public Health

Restaurant entrepreneur Shantanu Chandra, also known as the owner of D3, has placed food safety and public health at the center of his mayoral agenda. He stated that strict monitoring of food quality across the municipal area is his primary focus, aiming to safeguard residents from health risks associated with contaminated or substandard food products.

Coal Businessman Addresses Displacement and Environmental Degradation

Coal businessman Amit Agrawal has underscored displacement and environmental degradation as major challenges in Dhanbad. He pointed out that large parts of the city are fire-affected mining zones where people continue to live in unsafe conditions. While some families have been displaced, many have not received adequate compensation. Agrawal highlighted that resolving displacement issues, ensuring proper rehabilitation, and providing pollution-free housing are among his key priorities to improve living standards.

Other Candidates Emphasize Governance and Infrastructure

Proprietor Prakash Kumar has focused on governance and service delivery, alleging a significant mismatch between the taxes collected by the municipal body and the facilities provided to citizens. He advocates for greater transparency and efficiency in municipal operations.

Real estate developer Ravi Bundela has emphasized infrastructure development, particularly roads and drainage systems. He noted that the poor condition of roads and the lack of proper drains worsen traffic congestion and other civic problems, calling for urgent upgrades to enhance urban mobility and sanitation.

As the election campaign progresses, these varied agendas reflect the complex civic challenges facing Dhanbad, with candidates leveraging their professional expertise to propose solutions aimed at improving the quality of life for residents.
