In a significant departure from standard electoral procedures, the upcoming urban local body election in Daltonganj, officially known as Medininagar, will be conducted by five-member polling parties. This marks a notable contrast to the four-member teams typically deployed for Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections, as confirmed by Deputy Election Officer Ratan Kumar Singh.
Enhanced Polling Team Structure
Deputy Election Officer Ratan Kumar Singh elaborated on the composition of these polling parties, stating that each team will consist of one presiding officer, three polling officials, and one grade four staff member. This expanded structure is designed to ensure a more robust and efficient voting process for the municipal corporation elections.
Voting Mechanism and Voter Base
Singh further explained that each voter will exercise two votes during this election: one for the mayor and another for the ward commissioner. This dual-voting system is integral to the urban local body polls, allowing citizens to directly influence both municipal leadership and ward-level representation.
The Medininagar Municipal Corporation boasts a substantial electorate, with a little over 1.29 lakh registered voters. To accommodate this voter base, 132 polling stations have been established within the corporation limits, ensuring accessibility across the urban area.
Logistical Arrangements and Timing
With an average of approximately 1,000 voters assigned to each booth, authorities are confident in the logistical setup. The voting process is scheduled to take place from 7 am to 5 pm, providing a ten-hour window for citizens to cast their ballots.
Singh expressed optimism about the election's smooth conduct, emphasizing that the enhanced polling party structure and well-distributed stations will facilitate an orderly and efficient voting experience.
