Senior CPI Leader Claims EPS Knows He Cannot Return as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister

In a significant political statement during election campaigning in Trichy, senior Communist Party of India (CPI) leader R Mutharasan declared on Thursday that AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami has come to understand that he cannot become the chief minister of Tamil Nadu again. The remarks were made while Mutharasan was campaigning for DMK candidate and minister K N Nehru in the Trichy West constituency's Woraiyur area.

Mutharasan Accuses Palaniswami of Aligning with BJP for Personal Gain

Mutharasan asserted that Palaniswami has sided with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) purely for his personal benefit, rather than for any ideological alignment or state interest. "EPS has no intent of becoming a chief minister," Mutharasan stated emphatically. "He is locked in the BJP alliance like a fly trapped in a spider web."

The former state secretary of CPI elaborated that while all political parties within the DMK alliance are united in opposing the delimitation bill to protect the rights and interests of Tamil Nadu, Edappadi Palaniswami is refusing to acknowledge the detrimental effects of this legislation. Mutharasan criticized the bill as being moved hastily amid ongoing assembly elections in several states across India.

Contrasting Positions on Key Legislative Bills

Highlighting the differences between political alliances, Mutharasan pointed out that parties within the DMK alliance have accepted and welcomed the women's reservation bill, which aims to ensure fair representation for women in both the Lok Sabha and state assemblies. However, he questioned the necessity and timing of convening Parliament to discuss the delimitation bill while Tamil Nadu and West Bengal remain in election mode.

"We are wearing black shirts today and have hoisted black flags, and some have even burnt copies of the bill," Mutharasan explained. "All these actions are being taken to protect the state's rights and interests from what we see as harmful legislation."

Confidence in DMK Alliance's Return to Power

Expressing strong confidence in the ruling coalition, Mutharasan claimed that the DMK has successfully fulfilled most of its promises over the past five years. He asserted that this track record positions the DMK alliance for a return to power in the upcoming elections.

"The DMK alliance will return to power, and nobody can stop it," Mutharasan declared with conviction during his campaign speech. His comments reflect the heightened political tensions and strategic positioning as Tamil Nadu navigates complex electoral dynamics and legislative debates that could significantly impact the state's future political landscape.
