CM Revanth Reddy Condemns Jeevan Reddy's Defection to BRS
In a strongly worded statement, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has accused senior leader Jeevan Reddy of betraying the self-respect of Congress workers in Jagtial by joining hands with BRS supremo K Chandrasekhar Rao. Reddy made these remarks during a meeting with Congress leaders in Jagtial on Tuesday, as Jeevan Reddy prepares to formally join the BRS at a public event on April 20.
Decades of Loyalty and Political Support
The Chief Minister emphasized that Jeevan Reddy had been supported by Congress workers for over 40 years, with the party offering him the utmost respect and opportunities. "The Congress gave him everything—from respect to political future," Revanth Reddy stated. He recalled how party workers tirelessly campaigned for Jeevan Reddy's victory in the last assembly elections in Jagtial, and the party even offered him the Karimnagar Lok Sabha seat, though he chose to contest from Nizamabad instead.
A Leader's Fall from Grace
Revanth Reddy expressed deep disappointment, noting that it is unfortunate for a leader with such extensive experience to now stand before KCR with folded hands. "This move is not correct for his stature," he asserted, highlighting that the party had assured Jeevan Reddy and his family a secure political future. Despite Jeevan Reddy's efforts to quit the party, the CM claimed he had shown due respect and refrained from criticizing him publicly.
Congress's Continued Support and Recent Elections
Even in the recent municipal elections, the Congress accommodated candidates recommended by Jeevan Reddy, demonstrating ongoing trust. However, Revanth Reddy pointed out the irony of Jeevan Reddy aligning with KCR at a time when the Congress is actively opposing the BRS leader. "He is joining hands with our opponent when we are fighting against him," the CM remarked, underscoring the perceived betrayal.
Meeting with Local Leaders and Future Prospects
During the Jagtial meeting, Revanth Reddy held discussions with key Congress figures, including Tummala Nageshwar Rao, Adluri Laxman Kumar, Rajya Sabha MP Vem Narender Reddy, MLA Sanjay Kumar, and Jagtial DCC president Nandaiah. He inquired about other leaders and workers who might follow Jeevan Reddy to the BRS. Local leaders reassured him that while Jeevan Reddy is leaving, many Congress members will remain loyal. They expressed confidence in the party's ability to win the next Assembly election, signaling resilience despite the defection.
The CM's comments reflect a broader narrative of political realignment in Telangana, as the Congress grapples with internal challenges and external pressures from rival parties like the BRS.
