According to his family members, Subrata Adhikari left his home in the Sudampur area on Sunday night to attend a picnic nearby. When he did not return, his family grew worried and subsequently filed a missing person's complaint at the Moyna police station on Monday.
The search ended tragically on Thursday, the first day of the new year, when his body was discovered floating in a local pond close to his residence. The recovery has sent shockwaves through the local community and ignited a fierce political confrontation.
