Key Candidates and Campaigns

The BJP fielded Tuliram Ronghang as its candidate under the NDA banner, while the Congress nominated Augustine Enghee. Local issues dominated the electoral narrative, particularly land disputes and evictions from grazing reserves. Voters have also emphasized the need for better infrastructure, employment opportunities for tribal youth, and stronger protections for indigenous Karbi land from encroachment.

Historical Context

In the 2021 assembly elections, the BJP registered a strong victory in the nearby Howraghat (ST) constituency, winning by a margin of over 31,000 votes and securing more than 55 percent of the vote share. This precedent may have influenced voter sentiment in Rongkhang.

Broader Election Trends

The 2026 assembly elections have seen significant developments across several states. In Tamil Nadu, Vijay's TVK party emerged as a formidable force, pushing both the DMK and AIADMK to the margins. In West Bengal, the BJP is poised to oust Mamata Banerjee's government, while retaining Assam. The results reflect a shifting political landscape in the country.
