BJP's Sambit Patra Launches Scathing Attack on Telangana Congress Government
In a fiery address in Hyderabad, BJP national spokesperson and Member of Parliament Sambit Patra on Tuesday launched a blistering critique of the Congress-led government in Telangana, branding its much-publicized guarantees as mere paper promises designed to mislead the public. Patra's remarks came during his appearance as the chief guest at the 'Mahila Jan Aakrosh Sabha' event held in Nalgonda, where he directed his ire squarely at the state administration's alleged failures.
Allegations of Deception Against Women and Vulnerable Groups
Patra accused the Congress government of systematically deceiving women by failing to roll out critical welfare initiatives. He highlighted several unfulpled commitments, including:
- Providing ₹2,500 per month under the Mahalakshmi scheme
- Offering gold for married daughters through the Kalyanalakshmi program
- Distributing free scooters to students above 18 years of age
- Increasing pensions for the elderly, disabled individuals, and single women
"While every household across the nation constructed toilets and gained access to clean drinking water under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visionary governance, the Congress regime in Telangana specializes only in deception," Patra asserted, drawing a sharp contrast between central and state-level performances.
Historical Grievances and Accusations of Corruption
Delving into historical context, Patra recalled that former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi had opposed reservations for Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in 1990, alleging that the Congress party has perpetually harbored an anti-OBC mindset. Turning to contemporary issues, he leveled serious corruption allegations against Congress leaders in Nalgonda district, claiming their involvement in crores of rupees worth of malpractices within the rice mill industry.
Patra also criticized Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy's handling of the Kaleshwaram irrigation project, questioning the rationale behind limiting a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry to alleged corruption worth ₹9,000 crore when the total accusations amount to ₹1 lakh crore. "This selective scrutiny raises serious doubts—did they receive commissions on the remaining thousands of crores?" he provocatively asked.
Broader Political Critique and Women's Empowerment
The BJP leader expanded his attack to include other political parties, accusing Congress, along with the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the Trinamool Congress (TMC), of betraying women's interests. He referenced Prime Minister Modi's introduction of the historic 'Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam' bill, which aims to reserve 33% of legislative seats for women, contrasting it with what he described as the opposition's reluctance.
Patra contended that in family-dominated parties such as Congress, Samajwadi Party (SP), and TMC, ordinary women are not accorded due respect, as these organizations allegedly prioritize the advancement of their heirs over genuine public service. He issued a stern warning, predicting that the people of Telangana would soon "teach Congress a lesson" for its perceived anti-women stance and governance failures.
